Aspex Portsmouth is looking for an experienced and ambitious Curator to shape the contemporary visual arts programme.
Working with the Director and wider team, you’ll develop and deliver exhibitions, artist residencies and artist support initiatives, creating ambitious, engaging and inclusive projects with artists, communities and partners.
You’ll have at least three years’ experience in a gallery, arts organisation or professional curatorial practice, with a strong track record of producing contemporary visual arts projects. You’ll be an organised communicator with project management experience, budget and fundraising knowledge, and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Job Requirements
We’re looking for someone who has:
– At least three years’ experience working within a gallery, arts organisation or professional curatorial practice – Significant experience working with artists and producing contemporary visual art projects – Strong organisational, communication and project management skills – Experience managing budgets and contributing to fundraising – A passion for contemporary visual art and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
Job Responsibilities
As Curator, you’ll lead the development and delivery of Aspex’s exhibitions, artist residencies and artist support programmes. Working closely with the Director and wider team, you’ll oversee the curatorial process from research and concept development to exhibition delivery, fundraising and evaluation. You’ll also manage the Crafts & Retail programme, support audience development and build relationships with artists, funders and partners.
The role includes:
– Curating exhibitions, commissions and creative projects – Developing artist support and residency programmes – Collaborating with artists, communities and partners – Leading exhibition planning and delivery – Supporting fundraising and budget management – Contributing to public programmes and audience development – Helping shape Aspex’s artistic vision.
