Common Things is a group exhibition exploring how ordinary objects, materials, and everyday experiences can become meaningful artistic encounters. It invites audiences to rediscover the overlooked and find new ways of seeing within the familiar.
ABOUT COMMON THINGS
Much of what shapes everyday life escapes our attention precisely because it is familiar. Materials, images, tools and techniques surround us, becoming so embedded in our routines that we rarely stop to consider how they shape what we see, remember and experience. How do ordinary things become carriers of memory, identity and social life? Can something seemingly simple generate an equally powerful intellectual and emotional response? Common Things began with an interest in works that achieve something precise with familiar materials and experiences.
We welcome works that begin with what is most familiar, immediate, or easily overlooked by you – materials, images, objects, tools, techniques or experiences encountered repeatedly, closely, or almost without notice. Common Things is interested in what happens when artistic attention is given to what might otherwise seem ordinary.
The exhibition is not necessarily about making the ordinary extraordinary, but about what might emerge through a subtle shift in context, attention or perspective:
a memory, a relation, a tension, a question….
In a world where we are often encouraged to seek what is exceptional, distinctive and unlike anything else, Common Things asks what it might mean to stay with the ordinary. If you are attentive to the things that usually pass unnoticed, we invite you to join Common Things.
