Aspex Portsmouth is looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to lead our marketing and communications, helping increase awareness, engagement, visitor numbers and income. This is a pivotal role, working closely with the Director and wider team to develop and deliver an effective marketing and communications strategy.
You’ll lead campaigns, PR and external communications, digital activity, website and social media content, audience development, research and reporting. You’ll also manage the marketing budget and contribute to fundraising, advocacy and external partnerships.
The role includes line management of the Gallery & Marketing Assistant, freelance staff, interns and volunteers, as well as coordinating the Marketing Working Group and taking part in the Duty Manager rota during gallery opening hours and special events.
We’re looking for someone with experience across marketing, communications, social media, PR and digital campaigns, with strong organisational, communication, visual and design skills. You’ll be able to manage your own workload, work to deadlines, contribute creatively to the programme and understand accessible marketing and communications. Experience of fundraising/business development and line management is desirable.
Salary: £26,000-£28,000 Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week Location: Portsmouth, with flexible working

Job Requirements
– Developing, managing and implementing marketing, communications and social media activities
– Developing and delivering PR strategy, including press and external relations
– Practical experience of delivering multi-platform digital campaigns, to build online audience and engagement
– Familiarity with Google Workspace, updating website CMS systems (especially WordPress), Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Eventbrite and social media scheduling systems (Metricool)
– Managing budgets and preparing monthly budget monitoring reports
– Data collection, protection, analysis and reporting
– Fundraising/business development (D)
– Line Management (D)
– Excellent administrative skills, including working knowledge of Google Workspace
– Strong understanding of branding and visual identity and design skills
– Understanding of accessible marketing and communications
Job Responsibilities
– Develop and implement Aspex’s marketing and communications strategy, supporting the organisation’s Business Plan
– Develop and deliver campaigns to grow physical and online audiences and engagement
– Manage press, media, design, print and digital communications
– Maintain accurate and relevant website, social media and other digital content
– Create promotional and programme content, including exhibition materials and reports
– Undertake audience and visitor research, data collection, analysis and reporting
– Manage the marketing budget and monitor expenditure
– Contribute to fundraising, external partnerships and advocacy. Increase awareness of Aspex locally, regionally and nationally
– Coordinate the Marketing Working Group and make use of specialist Trustee expertise
– Manage, train and support Gallery Assistants, volunteers, interns and freelance staff
– Take part in the Duty Manager rota during daytime opening and regular special events, including evenings & weekends
