What's On

Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee + Pandit Shivkumar Sharma

The iconic sound of the sitar is brought together with the mesmerising sound of the santoor in this double-bill, as two masters of Indian classical music perform late night ragas.

Once proclaimed the ‘sitar artist of the century’ by veena player Balachander, Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee is a phenomenon. With tremendous control, breakneck virtuosity, and a palpable passion for raga, he truly is a pioneer of his artform. Tonight, he’s accompanied by tabla player Soumen Nandy, in what is his first London performance since 2014.

Closing this year’s Darbar Festival is Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, one of the world’s most esteemed santoor players, who performs together with his son, Rahul Sharma. Balancing ragas with emotional intensity and poetic subtlety, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma has been acclaimed for taking the santoor from its folk roots and into the Indian classical music tradition.
