The Curatorial Program for Research (CPR) is pleased to announce its open call for curators to participate in CPR 2026: Elsewhere, Nordic. In this program, curators will travel to the Nordic region, visiting Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Stockholm. CPR’s fully-funded research program will take place from September 20–October 6, 2026.
Hosted by local institutions and independent curators, the program gathers a cohort of up to six international curators-in-residence. The robust programming offers daily visits to artist studios and local arts institutions, complemented by readings about local socio-political history, arts, and culture.
On the theme
The theme of the program takes its title as a starting point: Elsewhere, Nordic. Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Stockholm sit at the center of Nordic cultural life, yet remain peripheral to the dominant axes of the international art world — Berlin, London, New York. CPR 2026 works with this conceptual periphery as its throughline, asking what it means to occupy a margin while functioning, locally, as a center.
Within each of these capitals, the program will trace a further periphery — the artists, institutions, and independent actors whose work sits at the edges of their own scenes. We will meet with those engaged in integrating underrepresented voices into their institutions and programming, and press further: is that integration even the relevant question, or the one these artists and actors would ask of themselves? The program is less interested in resolving this tension than in what gets produced from within it — the positions, practices, and forms of address that emerge from working elsewhere, even at home.
