Hensby Workshop Residency 2027 is a funded creative development programme exploring how traditional making practices can facilitate and enrich contemporary design in wood. A small group of practising makers will develop new work through research, material experimentation and making. The residency is intended for makers with an existing practice and a developed body of work, working with wood or tree-derived materials. Each project will result in one piece or a small collection of up to three pieces exploring the same concept in different forms. Potential buyers, production, pricing and profitability are considered alongside creative development. Ideas development takes place from late November 2026 through January 2027, with preparation and conversations agreed individually. The workshop residency runs from 1st to 26th February 2027, Monday to Friday, at Hensby Workshop in Walthamstow, London. Work is completed by 26th February. Each selected maker receives £2,000 towards development and making time, plus a £1,000 materials budget. Support includes dedicated workspace, workshop facilities, technical and creative support, peer reviews, photography and exhibition presentation. The finished work will be exhibited during London Craft Week from 10th to 16th May 2027. Supported by Arts Council England through National Lottery funding.
