A new commission for Open Space at Suffolk Drive, marking the 90th anniversary of the temporary camp for 3862 refugees
Eastleigh Borough Council is inviting submissions from Artists or an Artist Collective to develop and deliver a Public Art Commission at Suffolk Drive Open Space in Chandler’s Ford.
The Council welcomes proposals from across the creative disciplines including interdisciplinary approaches between Artists and collaborators of their choosing.
The Commission is funded by Developer’s Contributions for Public Art allocated by Eastleigh Local Area Committee (ELAC) and a grant from Chandler’s Ford Parish Council, and has been initiated in partnership with the Basque Children of ’37 Association UK.
Completion of the project in May 2027 will mark the 90th anniversary of the temporary camp set up by local volunteers to house 3862 child refugees from the Basque region during the Spanish Civil War.
