The issue of cultural and religious diversity has rarely been more of a sensitive subject in British society, now with a pioneering new project Hackney’s The Building Exploratory is trying to engage schoolchildren to understand more about the diverse faiths in their communities through a new arts programme ‘Religion and Place in Tower Hamlets’.

The project was first trialed in 2005 with Mulberry School for Girls but thanks to additional funding in 2007 from the Arts Council England and English Heritage, the programme has expanded to include four schools this year in two phases.
