Punk fashion to be celebrated in New York

Mohawks and studded leather jackets are set to take over New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art thanks to the upcoming exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture. Speaking at a press conference during New York fashion week, curator of the museum’s Costume Institute Andrew Bolton spoke about punk fashion and how it ‘prized originality and individuality above all else.’

‘Although punk’s democracy stands in opposition to fashion’s autocracy, designers continue to appropriate punk’s aesthetic vocabulary to capture its youthful rebelliousness and aggressive forcefulness,’ Bolton said.
