Curiosity is like a flashlight in the dark. It directs us to something we had a feeling was there and makes it tangible.

I recently attended a seminar at the Victorian Writers’ Centre to listen to journalist and essayist Gideon Haigh talk about essay writing. What struck me was his interminable curiosity about subject matter and the evolution of essay writing. During the seminar I wrote just one word: curiosity.
