'Artwashing' the latest weapon for real estate agents

Artists have helped revitalise urban spaces but in the UK real estate developments are using art as a tool of gentrification. One arts project satirised the skyrocketing prices that drive artists out of the very areas they are making more valuable.

The value of culture in regenerating cities has long been recognised. Sometimes this happens centrally, whether via the commissioning of high profile public artworks, or the rebranding of city areas as cultural quarters. But in many cities, culture-led redevelopment occurs organically.
