A rare annotated first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has sold for a record price in England. Scrawled with notes from author JK Rowling, the book was hotly contested by two buyers, who fought more furiously than Harry and Lord Voldermort, rocketing the price to £150,000 (235,056 AUD) according to the BBC.

It wasn’t only Rowling’s books under the hammer, with 50 UK and Commonwealth writers offering annotated first editions of their books for the English PEN. In total, the sale raised £439,200 for the organisation, which campaigns for freedom of expression and is a regular fixture at writers’ festivals around the world.
