The first ever facsimile of four intact sketchbooks by Vincent van Gogh will be published next month, when the originals go on display in Amsterdam.
The sketches, while not as well-known as Van Gogh’s celebrated paintings, are some of his most intimate creations including nudes, portraits and landscapes. Providing an exclusive view into his work and its development, these sketches in ink, pencil, charcoal and even crayon contain some pages that are actually stand-alone miniature works of art. Van Gogh also used his sketchbooks to jot down several everyday matters, prescriptions, and addresses and to sketch out construction drawings of perspective frames.
