Source Art Sales Digest

Acarved wooden figure from Caroline Islands sold for $16,100 to a telephone bidder at Lawson’s May sale in 2001 but according to Terry Ingram of Art Sales Digest it was expected to be worth nothing like that.

Ingram says the 40 cm figure sold for 64 times its estimate and is now believed to be of ‘far less interest than what the competing bidders had hoped for’.
