Christie’s annual Australian Art sale at their King Street rooms in London sold 44 lots, totalling AUD $6,212,420 (including buyers premium). The results equated to a sale result of 59% by lot, 60% by value, unusually reflective of sound lot estimates and a sense of what the market could sustain.

The auction came as the Australia exhibition opened at the Royal Academy to devastating reviews. One prominent reviewer described well love Australian art works as ‘cow pats’ and another as a ‘cascade of diarrhoea‘.
