Gallery removes Indonesian president’s portrait

A major Australian gallery has removed a portrait of the Indonesian President in the wake of the executions of Australian drug smugglers in Bali.

The National Portrait Gallery removed the photographic portrait of Indonesian President Joko Widodo from exhibition the day after the executions.

Director Angus Trumble said he had taken pre-emptive action to remove the portrait temporarily, in the wake of the news of and public reaction to the executions.
