The makers of documentary short film Inocente managed to raise $52,527 through Kickstarter to fund the film, and it has certainly paid off. Inocente, which tells the story of a 15-year-old homeless artist in San Diego, recently picked up the Best Documentary Short Film award at the Oscars.

‘We were really excited that Inocente … a young homeless girl, can stand on the stage in front of a billion people and show the world that homeless kids have a voice,’ co-director Sean Fine told the LA Times. ‘And so that’s an amazing, amazing thing.’
