Architect at the heart of disaster recovery wins 2014 Pritzker Prize

The designer of Christchurch’s ‘cardboard cathedral’ and temporary housing in post-Tsunami Japan wins architecture award.

Toyko born architect Shigeru Ban is a rare breed. The 56-year old, who has offices in Tokyo, Paris and New York, has travelled to disaster zones all over the world for the past two decades. While many aid organisations are providing food and medical assistance, Ban and his team of volunteers step in with simple, low cost shelters and community buildings for victims of disaster.
