Self-publishing service provider Author Solutions, owned by Penguin, sued by authors claiming it’s not an ‘independent publisher’.

Self-publishing isn’t a dirty word anymore. In fact, done properly, self-publishing can net authors a larger chunk of royalties than paid by traditional publishers as well as allowing them access to insatiable online markets. Amazon, Barnes & Noble and a plethora of other publishers offer the opportunity to self-publish. Among those is Penguin, who does so via Author Solutions, which they acquired in July 2012 for $116 million USD.
