A stage version of Mark Haddon’s best-selling book about a young mathematician with some behavioural problems and a re-telling of the classic Astaire-Rogers musical Top Hat are the leaders of the race for Britain’s top theatre, dance and opera awards, the Olivier Awards.
The National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time scooped 8 nominations, including best new play, best director and best actor. Crowd-pleaser Top Hat has been nominated for seven prizes including Best Musical, while a restaging of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd is up for six awards.
