STAMFORD SHAKESPEARE COMPANY AT TOLETHORPE Is seeking a TECHNICAL MANAGER for THE RUTLAND OPEN AIR THEATRE

Job Description

We are one of the oldest outdoor theatres in the country, with a permanent auditorium seating 600. Set in seven acres of stunning parkland, with a Grade 2 listed building containing your office, we are seeking a dynamic and personable technical manager to augment our key core of professional staff.

Salary range £31-34,000 depending on experience.

Ideal start date 1st September 2025.

Job Requirements

You are a pioneer and an adventurer. Dynamic and driven but at the same time capable of diplomatic and strategic negotiations as you help instil a culture of best practice. Hours during the season are long but the other 40 weeks of the year are flexible. You will help drive and create the future of this extraordinary place.

Job Responsibilities

Key skills :-

  • Stage Management
    • Developing and supporting a team of volunteers who run the productions
    • Installing a culture of the DSM running the show with a book
    • Supporting rehearsals as needed
    • Attending production meetings
  • Lighting
    • Working with the lighting designer and overseeing the rigging of the season (with support)
    • Teaching the volunteers who op the productions
  • Sound
    • Working with the sound designer
    • Teaching the volunteers who op the productions
  • Set building
    • Working with the designer and the two carpenters to help deliver the build (although building skills not necessarily key.)
    • Overseeing the CDM generally
    • Working with the team of volunteers to paint and dress the sets
  • The theatre
    • Maintaining the technical equipment and advising on purchases
    • Helping refit the sound and lighting systems as needed (with support)
    • Running the backstage areas and workshop and keeping them safe and tidy
    • Overseeing Health & Safety
