ARTISTIC PLANNING – Lead the artistic direction of NYO in consultation with Conductors, Administrators & NYO Board – Nurture a culture of excellence: ensure the quality of music making is inspirational for NYO members, staff & audiences. – Inspire & excite students in their music making; acknowledge their achievements – Build a sense of NYO community across the classical & jazz orchestras STRATEGY & PLANNING – Develop a vision for the future of NYO – Promote NYO’s achievements to a wider audience e.g. educational sector, local community, potential business & individual sponsors – Ensure the Tour Manager has all in hand for the summer tour FUNDRAISING – Work with the Board/freelance bid writers to develop a fundraising strategy for NYO and identify new funding sources PEOPLE MANAGEMENT – Ensure staff contracts are up-to-date & signed on an annual basis – Visit evening rehearsals regularly: liaise with the Rehearsal Supervisor about any issues – Keep an overview of tutor attendance & the use of tutor deps. – Act as line manager to the Administrator, Events Administrator, Rehearsal Supervisor, Tour Manager & Tutors – Act as chair at tutor or parent helper meetings. Help draw up meeting agendas MARKETING & STUDENT RECRUITMENT – Ensure NYO’s public image is consistent & reflects the work of the organisation – Develop & implement a new marketing plan for NYO – Ensure all ensembles are equally promoted STUDENT MANAGEMENT – Maintain an overview of the promotion process between orchestras – Liaise with the Administrator in handling parents’ feedback. – Oversee student bursaries FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT – Manage NYO’s budget alongside Admin & Treasurer – Approve payments set up by the Treasurer GOVERNANCE – Oversee & update NYO policy documents on Child Safeguarding, Health & Welfare, GDPR, Equal Opportunities, Student Behaviour, & Parent Helper Guidelines – Set quarterly Board meeting dates & attend to report to Trustees – Keep the Chair informed of any urgent issues
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Exceptional people management skills Excellent communicator with a friendly, professional and diplomatic manner Experience of working with children & young people Proven ability to deliver work consistently & efficiently under pressure whilst balancing conflicting priorities Excellent attention to detail Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholder Passionate about the arts, music education & youth music making Effective skills in steering meetings so that they remain focused. Ability to manage both time & personalities whilst promoting appropriate discussion & effective outcomes DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Fundraising & Development Working with freelance musicians Safeguarding & promoting the welfare of children Connection to the Nottinghamshire educational music scene and community
Job Responsibilities
