The Executive Producer (EP) is a senior position within the organisation working collaboratively with the Artistic Director/CEO (AD/CEO) on overall strategic direction.
You hold a key role executively producing OperaUpClose’s programme, delivering our audience and financial objectives, and promoting and maintaining an organisational culture which values the highest standards – both in executing the artistic vision and in management practice.
Together the AD and EP form the Executive Team. The EP will attend OperaUpClose Board Meetings and Finance Committee Meetings, and deputises for the AD as necessary and appropriate.
Job Title: Executive Producer (Maternity Cover)
Contract: Maternity cover, provisional term 9 months, 4 days/week
Salary: £35,722 (4 days/week – our hours are 09:30-17:30)
Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays pro rata
Reporting to: Flora McIntosh, Artistic Director/Chief Executive
Responsible for: Company Manager, Freelancers
Location: a minimum of 2 days/week at OperaUpClose offices in Mayflower Studios, Southampton with an expectation that this may increase during certain periods of activity
Start Date: handover end of August/Beginning of September 2025, with an official start date w/c 8th September 2025
Probation period: 3 months
Job Requirements
- A passion for the arts, music, theatre and OperaUpClose’s mission
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal
- Positive, flexible and responsive approach
- The ability to provide effective leadership to staff and company members
- Substantial management experience, likely to have been gained within a producing theatre, touring company or arts charity
- Experience of touring theatre and/or opera
- Experience working with Arts Council England
- Practical experience of successful financial management including producing and overseeing budgets
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, both maintaining our existing approaches and being proactive in identifying where there is need for further change
- A right to work in the UK and eligible to pass an enhanced DBS check
