Creative Bursaries support students from marginalized groups who are experiencing financial hardship, and are looking to develop practices focusing on arts for social change. These unrestricted bursaries give agency to emerging artists, helping them to thrive in the arts.

The Creative Bursary is a grant program created by The Supporting Act Foundation to help artists from under-recognized and/or marginalized groups who are at the early stages of their careers, and are experiencing financial hardship. This program is built on extensive research into the challenges facing emerging artists in Europe, and aims to address the areas on which the foundation is focused: reducing precarity, fighting discrimination, and addressing vulnerability. Our ambition is to support people who are under-represented in the creative and cultural sectors, and have fewer opportunities to fulfill their creative potential. To this end, we are offering 20 unrestricted bursaries of €10,000- for undergraduate students entering the final year of their studies in September 2024, who are looking to develop their practice towards arts for social change, and in particular those creating solidarity networks for others in similar situations.

Creative Bursaries are intended to help cover tuition fees, living costs, materials, and any other costs that may be incurred, and will be transferred in monthly installments of €1,000- over a period of 10 months from September 2024. Non-financial support will also be offered in the form of access to a network of peers and mentors, as well as promotion on our social channels, and on the social channels and advertising and editorial platforms of our funding partner WeTransfer.

Eligible applications will be assessed by an independent jury of artists and specialists, including a representative of last year’s grantees, on the basis of financial need, potential impact on artistic practice, community engagement, and alignment with the wider aims of the Creative Bursary program. Applicants should have a bank account registered in the Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, or Italy. Full details on eligibility, and on the program, are provided in the accompanying guide.
