Christine Brown Trust for Young Musicians
The Christine Brown Trust for Young Musicians offers financial support to exceptionally talented young musicians under 19 years of age who are in financial hardship and unable to meet the expenses involved in learning a musical instrument. This may mean contributing towards the cost of lessons, helping to pay for a new instrument, perhaps paying for summer school or orchestra fees – in fact, anything connected with the costs of an instrumental education.
To apply for funding, please fill in the online application form.
You will also be required to supply three references. Your references should include:
1) one letter from someone who knows you in a personal capacity, e.g. youth club leader, minister or other professional person
2) two letters from people who can comment on your musical ability, e.g. a school or private music teacher, an orchestra leader or musical director
These should be sent separately by post to:
The Christine Brown Trust,
11 Boothroyd Drive,
All three references should be sent together in one envelope, clearly marked with the applicant’s name. Please do not use recorded delivery as this is unnecessary and leads to delays.
The Trustees will meet twice annually, around June and December, to discuss applications and allocate awards. The deadline for applications in June 2022 is 30th April 2022 and for December 2022 the deadline is 31st October 2022.
All decisions will be made on the basis of the information received on the application form, and personal interviews will not take place. Any potential applicants should therefore try to give as much information as possible on the application form. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high degree of commitment and give evidence of sustained development.
As was Christine Brown’s express wish, priority will be given to applicants from the Yorkshire region, but other applications will be also be considered where the Trustees feel that there is a worthy case.
