A groundbreaking opera exploring Black British experiences, telling an urgent national story of state violence through joy, love, laughter and pain.

An opera. A ghost story. A love story. Black boy joy and Black boy nightmares. Our Eyes Looking for God is an exceptional and vital work written during the 2020 global racial reckoning. Writer/Director TD Moyo uses the operatic form, with its drama, music, staging and instrumentals, to tell an all-encompassing story about identity, state violence and love.

This production is brought to life by a visionary team. TD Moyo is a director, teacher, poet and activist whose work focuses around new stories and social engagement. Renell Shaw is an Ivor Novello award-winning composer, platinum selling songwriter and music producer who works across a range of genres, British-Nigerian soprano April Koyejo-Audiger is an operamaker, award-winning opera singer and librettist. Mateus Daniel is a movement director, choreographer and facilitator.
