Leon Kossoff (1926-2019) is regarded as one of the most important British artists of his time. Much of his life was devoted to creating exhilarating, yet often surprisingly tender, images of the areas of London he lived within and moved through.

Join artist Alexandra Blum online to discover the energy and rhythm of the city which pulsates through Leon Kossoff’s paintings and drawings of London. Dive into the myriad London spaces Kossoff depicted and use them as a springboard to experiment with ways of drawing the space you are surrounded by.

Alexandra’s own drawings have been influenced by the mobile viewpoints and multiple moments in time that can be found in Kossoff’s work. After a discussion and practical drawing activity exploring Kossoff’s London imagery, Alexandra will use her drawing experience to guide you through further drawing activities to help you depict a journey through space in a way you might not have come across before.

Participants will receive a materials pack containing: 12 sheets of white A4 paper; 1 x 2B charcoal pencil – or a 2B or 4B graphite pencil; 1 roll of easy tear sticky tape.

You will also need the following items not included in your materials pack: Eraser; pencil sharpener; a small object with an interesting shape/form. For example an ornament, salt/pepper mill, plant, shell, sunglasses or a simpler form like a tube of hand cream. This should be about 15 cm in its longest dimension.

Our Leon Kossoff: Moving Through the City workshop will take place online on Saturday 4th March 2023 and will be led by artist Alexandra Blum. Booking is essential due to popular demand.
