The Painting Course, is for those who want to learn to paint with oils or acrylic pains or to advance their knowledge, skill and application in the discipline of painting. Practicing artists can challenge their current artistic position and newer students will develop the confidence to produce ambitious work.
This course will provide students with the practical foundation skills of painting. Drawing, value, and colour are the cornerstones on which generations of artists have built their work. Using these basics students will be encouraged to develop their own individual and authentic approach to their work.
Students work within an open and dedicated studio environment, engaging dialogue with the tutor and class colleagues helps students to develop ideas and encourages experiment, along with regular one-to-one and group tutorials allow students to push their work. Through study of master works, we’ll examine different techniques, exploring the differing approaches artists take to similar subjects.
Students will undertake personal projects, developing their ideas through sketches and studies. Culminating in a final piece completed over several classes. Aims and outcomes of all projects are assessed in constructive class critiques; developing the student’s ability to critically reflect on their own work and that of others.
Students will be encouraged to develop their individual direction, finding their own area of interest and the particular approaches that work best for them. At the end of the course students can expect to have learned about the process of creating a painting. From its inception to final resolution, be able to develop their ideas and communicate them to others.
