Do self-publishing companies like Blurb just take photographer’s money, or can they help build creative careers?   

In 2005, Eileen Gittins started a photography project based on San Franciscans who had been influential in her successful career in the start up industry. At the completion of the project she wanted to make a book to give to each person involved. That only amounted to around 40 copies – too small a print run for a traditional publisher.
