Art classes changed the poorest scoring school in a US district to an exemplar of student improvement.

Ten years ago the Orchard Gardens K8 School started in Roxbury, Boston with high hopes that the school would be a place for the encouragement of arts  – music, drama and dance – among the students, but all that faded away soon. The picture of promise crumbled and the school was plagued by violence, disorder and the poorest scores in Boston.
