Artists (18-25 yrs) are invited to submit project proposals for a residency at SVA
This project offers an opportunity for young artists (18-25yrs old) to take residence in the gallery for 2 weeks to make and show new work. The two residency dates are 8th – 21st February and 23rd February – 8th March. If you are not able to apply now, there maybe further opportunities later in the year, so keep an eye out on social media.
The deadline for submission: Wednesday 6th January 2021.
Engagement with public
SVA aims for the gallery to be open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays 10am -4pm. This will be subject to change based on the latest Covid 19 rules so it maybe that the residency takes place without any public being able to enter the space. However engagement with the public can take place through the highly visible street facing gallery windows. Social distancing provides artists with an opportunity to experimentally engage with people passing by and possibly using the window as space for visual imagery, projections, sound transmissions or performance.
To see recent artist projects in the gallery visit SVA ‘s website here.
Digital storytelling
SVA has invested more time in creating digital stories about the projects which have taken place during the pandemic to share with safe distancing audiences. The aim is for the resident artist to work with SVA tp produce a series of Instagram 1minute films and a 10 minute film which will document the residency and be shared online with wider audiences who cannot visit the gallery.
Fee
SVA will offer the gallery for 2 weeks for a residency with a £300 fee to contribute to production costs. If you are not a locally based artist SVA maybe be able to contribute towards travel and accommodation costs (depending on Covid rules). All other residency costs would be the responsibility of the artist.
Marketing
SVA will use existing marketing resources to support the residency programme. Artist will be asked to upload and share website/ social media posts and links and display SVA logos on publicity.
