The Cordis Prize, the world’s largest award for tapestry, is set to return for it’s fifth round in 2021. The £8000 prize is the biggest award from woven tapestry in the world and aims to encourage and reward ambition and scale in the field of contemporary weaving. From 1October 2020 we will be accepting entries via an online open submission, full details can be found below.
We are delighted to be returning to the majestic Inverleith House Gallery in the heart of Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. The shortlisted tapestries from the open submission will be exhibited from March – June 2021, and the winner of the £8000 prize selected from the works on show and announced at the private view.
We are also seeking submissions of interest for a presentation within the Cordis Prize exhibition that gives insight into the process and journey that leads to a completed tapestry. We are interested in all aspects of how you gather and document your inspiration, the methodologies you employ in developing your designs, background research that informs your practice, theoretical and practical experimentation… This could take the form of sketchbooks, photo documentation, an essay, a short film, material samples, to name but a few. If you have an idea for an engaging presentation of a tapestry’s journey, please send a brief outline by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
