Located at The Patricia Thompson Building at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, Maggie’s Oxford strives to offer the best possible support to anyone with cancer and their families free of charge. The centre provides a breathing space away from hospital and professional support in a calm, uplifting and friendly space. Co-founder Maggie Keswick Jencks knew from her own experience, the importance of art, architecture and gardens in creating a healing space for those affected by cancer. The Maggie’s Centres aim to create a home-from-home where there is light, warmth, access to nature and domesticity. One of the many casualties of the Covid pandemic has been a cut in financial support for many charities and Maggie’s has suffered like other organisations. Zuleika Gallery is therefore calling out to the big-hearted artists who made things happen last year to join us again in trying to make a difference in supporting this wonderful and life enhancing organisation.
The exhibition will be launched online on 20 March 2021 and will be available to view until 5 April 2021.
The exhibition will be guest curated by Lena Fritsch, curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Amanda Jewell, Curator of the Sewell Centre Gallery, Deborah Laidlaw, Chair of the Campaign and Centre Fundraising Board at Maggie’s Oxford and Tim Sayer, Journalist, Collector and Director of Zuleika Gallery. Paul Hobson, Director of Modern At Oxford will judge the ‘best entry’ in each category.
