Artists from all over Scotland and beyond are being invited to re-design Oor Wullie and his very famous dungarees for the world’s first nationwide public art trail set to hit the streets across Scotland in 2019.
Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail will see 150 sculptures of Scotland’s favourite son displayed across Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh next summer as part of the country’s first ever national free-to-view art trail, which will raise funds for The ARCHIE Foundation, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
The Wild in Art event will unite artists, businesses, local communities and schools as it raises awareness of the work these charities do to transform the experiences of every child and young person in hospital across Scotland.
Designs for the blank sculptures – which features a laughing Oor Wullie sitting on his famous bucket – are welcome in any art form, from traditional to new media, fine art to illustrations, graffiti, mosaic, metalwork and much more. The only limit is the artists’ imagination.
Successful Oor Wullie designs will be presented to the event’s sponsors – local businesses and organisations in each of the cities – and commissioned artists will receive an honorary payment.
The BIG Bucket Trail team are looking for designs that are bright, colourful and full of fun and flourish for this family-friendly art event.
As each Oor Wullie will be sold at auctions in the five cities, original and conversation-stopping designs will ensure that, crucially, they sell for a premium and help raise vital funds for the three charities.
Anyone from the creative community can submit a design – from established artists to those who are as yet undiscovered, art students, adults, children and community groups. Information packs are available to download at www.oorwullie.com with all the dimensions and details.
Artists must submit their ideas online before midnight on 31st January 2019 to be in with a chance of seeing their Oor Wullie design on display during the 11-week free-to-view public art trail next summer.
Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail is supported by DC Thomson Media and sponsored by Arnold Clark.
