Are you aged 13-25? Do you make art? Are you using it to express something about mental health?
We’re looking for young artists to submit artwork for City Arts and the Institute of Mental Health’s open exhibition. There’s no fee for submitting work and you’ll have the option to put your art up for sale.
What type of art should I submit?
Your artwork must relate to mental health in some way. It can be about your own experiences, or just show us something about how young people are affected by mental health issues.
You could submit:
- Flat textile artworks
- Digitally created artworks
- Mixed media artworks
We can only accept 2D artworks, so no sculpture sadly. Anything you submit should be in a black frame and ready to display. If it is on canvas and can hang without a frame, that is also fine.
Who can take part?
There are two age categories for submissions:
You do not need to have previous experience of exhibiting your art, but we welcome submissions from people that do have experience.
When & where will the exhibit happen?
We aim to open the exhibition in September 2020. The exact opening date will be confirmed close to the time, when we are clearer about COVID-19 situation. Please feel assured that it will definitely go ahead, even if it we need to push it into 2021.
The exhibition will be at the Institute of Mental Health, Jubilee Campus, University of Nottingham Innovation Park, Triumph Road, Nottingham NG7 2TU.
About the Institute of Mental Health
The Institute is dedicated to innovative mental health research and education. It makes new discoveries, improves lives and challenges stigma. Art and creativity can support mental health recovery. The Institute is proud of its work to support artists through its partnership with City Arts. Every year the two organisations hold an open exhibition on a different mental health theme.
The Institute of Mental Health is a partnership between Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Nottingham.
How to apply
The deadline for submission is 10th July. It can be done online, using the form below, or you can download the form as a Word Document for email/postal submissions. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to complete the form on your behalf.
We will let you know if your artwork/s have been selected for the exhibition by the week beginning 13th July. You will then need to send, or bring, your artwork to City Arts, 11-13 Hockley, Nottingham NG1 1FH by 24th August.
The legal bit
City Arts and the Institute for Mental Health can accept no liability for any damage caused to artwork – artists exhibit work at their own risk. We will take great care to make sure the work is not damaged.
Selling and posting your work
If you need your work posting back to you after the exhibition, we will ask for a £17 fee for postage and packing. This covers the cost of postage in the UK mainland. If you will need your work returned to somewhere outside the UK mainland, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
We’ll tell you if your work has been sold. The buyer will pay us in full for the purchase, and then we will ask you to send us an invoice for your stated sale price. Please note – we will take a 10% admin fee on work priced over £50 if it is sold.
