Pianist Chris Alomes, 26, and cellist William Hewer, 23, are frustratingly familiar with the typical music competition model. ‘You make your 45 minute DVD, pay your 200 euros and fire it off. You don’t hear anything for three months and then if you do get accepted you have to find the money to travel for a competition you may or may not get anything out of,’ says Alomes.
So the two classically-trained musicians decided to create competition they would want to enter. The result is The World Competition, an ambitious project which aims to enable musicians from across the globe to compete simply by uploading a video of their playing to the site.
