SHOAL DUO - Exploring improvisation and contemporary classical music

SHOALS DUO will be playing at 8pm in the Bar of the Royal College of Art.

Harpist Martino Panizza and cellist Alice Purton founded the Shoals Duo in September 2011 with the idea of widening the repertoire for this unusual combination.

The Shoals Duo finds its place where musical genres cross, taking inspiration from the XX century classical music avant-gardes as well as from jazz, rock and electronic music. The fundament of the ensemble is improvisation, where the two players experiment with combinations of noises obtained with different sorts of extended technique alongside melodic and lyrical moments.

The Shoals Duo are commissioning new works to London based composers and they wish to create collaborative performance together with visual and electronic music artists.

Their aim is to create performances dedicated to a modern audience not just strictly connected to classical music culture.

The Bar of the RCA is a really nice venue just behind Hyde Park with a really nice view of the Royal Albert Hall by the roof terrace.
Students of the RCA meet here during the day and on Friday evening is always busy with a really cool vibe.

We will play some improvisations with pre-recorded and processed sounds by Theodore Vidgen, two pieces by Chorong Park (London) and Jacopo Salvatori (Berlin).
