MEDIA RELEASE COURTESY OF: UNIVERSITY OF GOTHENBURG
We welcome your application for admission to doctoral (third cycle) education at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden!
We would like to welcome those of you, who, with your own artistic practice as the point of departure, wish to go into more depth in your artistry and work in a creative and reflective process that can enhance your own artistry as well as the formation of knowledge in the arts as a whole.
The faculty board's research school has its 10th birthday this year – as does the whole faculty – and this is something we will be celebrating during the entire course of this year.
The Faculty now announce eight vacant places on its doctoral (third cycle) programme, with September 1st as the starting date. The last date of application is 5th April 2010.
Subjects:
• Digital Representation
• Research on Arts Education – with a specialisation in Dance
• Independent Filmmaking
• Fine Arts
• Literary Composition, Poetry and Prose
• Musical Performance and Interpretation
• Performance in Theatre and Music Drama
• Crafts
The doctoral programme is partly organised as an interdisciplinary faculty research school, where theoretical and methodological issues with a particular focus on artistic research are treated.
At least two of the places on the doctoral (third cycle) programme will, if certain conditions are met, be part of a planned national research school in the arts, which has been granted funds by the Swedish Research Council.
The education comprises of 240 higher education credits, which is equivalent to four years of full-time studies. The programme consists of a course section, consisting of 60-120 higher education credits, and a part dedicated to the student's dissertation, consisting of 120-180 higher education credits. The course section aims at providing the student with deep theoretical knowledge, a diversification of approaches and schooling in methodology.
The part of the programme dedicated to the student's dissertation includes the student's own research and artistic work and also the completion of a doctoral dissertation.
The doctoral programme leads to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or, if certain conditions are met, a Doctor of the Arts (A.D.); the latter, however, does not apply to the subject Research on Arts Education.
