MEDIA RELEASE COURTESY OF: Culture Line
How did London’s myriad small areas acquire their distinct and fascinating characters? A panel of well-known writers, artists and historians chaired by writer and BBC London broadcaster Robert Elms will discuss the way the capital has evolved over the centuries to absorb cultures and peoples from all over the globe. Panellists include the photographer Tom Hunter and acclaimed writer Iain Sinclair.
This event celebrates the launch of CultureLine – a partnership between 10 museums and galleries, including Whitechapel Gallery, along the newly-opened London Overground East London Line.
Tom Hunter’s highly personal work focuses on his neighbours and friends in east London, where he lives and works. In 2006 Hunter was the first artist to have a photography show at the National Gallery, London and has created work for both the Museum of London and Geffrye Museum.
‘Psychogeographer’ Iain Sinclair’s award-winning novels build on his love of London’s ‘myth and matter’, while his non-fiction work includes London Orbital and Hackney, That Rose-Red Empire. He has established a reputation as one of Britain’s most imaginative and original writers.
Further panellists to be announced.
