KILFORD – THE MUSIC PAINTER to paint Iron Maiden

SONISPHERE: KILFORD – THE MUSIC PAINTER

Sonisphere is making rock history yet again by commissioning the rock and roll star of the art world, KILFORD – THE MUSIC PAINTER - to paint the music of some of the world’s most iconic rock legends, including Sunday night headliners IRON MAIDEN plus IGGY & THE STOOGES, live on stage during their performances at KNEBWORTH!

This will be the first time that either of these acts have been painted live, and the first event of its kind at a British rock festival. More bands will be announced leading up to the event.

Kilford sees colours when he hears music; he starts painting on the first note of the performance and ends on the last and has painted live alongside some of the world’s greatest bands including Black Eyed Peas, The Charlatans, Deep Purple, Brian Eno and Damon Albarn, Paul Weller and Robert Plant.

“This is a first for festivals and as rock music is the reason I started painting, it feels like coming home,” says Kilford. He continues, “Iggy and Maiden are some of the great rock Gods and painting their live music has been a long time in the making! I’m delighted to be painting with them live at Knebworth”.

Sonisphere and Kilford have agreed that the funds raised from one of the live paintings will be donated to Nordoff-Robbins - a charity that specialises in positively transforming the lives of people constrained by illness, trauma, isolation or disability through the power of music.

Stuart Galbraith, CEO of Kilimanjaro Live, the promoters of Sonisphere, says “We are absolutely thrilled to have Kilford painting at Sonisphere, not only is he is a totally unique addition that both the bands and the fans are going to love but one of his iconic paintings is going to be a world exclusive, signed by the band and Kilford, it will raise a lot of money for Nordoff Robbins”.

In addition Kilford has designed a limited edition T-shirt that is now available online from the Sonisphere website. The T-shirt celebrates this first collaboration and all of the profits also go to Nordoff Robbins. There are only 100 T-shirts available, individually numbered and on sale for only £20 each.

People can see Kilford’s live painting in action before the Sonisphere Festival at his monthly One Love installation that takes place at The Social in London. One Love is where great musicians come to have their music painted in an intimate venue; the next installation is 19th July 2010.

Sonisphere takes place at Knebworth House July 30th – 1 August 2010.
