The aim of the competition is to encourage an appreciation of portrait drawing as a worthy element in the history of art, at the same time history in general.
The judging panel then select a shortlist of 20 artists, to be announced in early April. The overall winners from two age groups will be announced at a gala event at Tapeley Park Manor in Devon on 24th April 2010.
The winner of the competition will be awarded a prize of £500, together with a certificate and a copy of the book signed by all members of the jury. The image of winning portraits will be attached to a limited number of the published books. The remaining shortlisted artists will also receive a certificate.
