Call for Entries 2010 Funded and managed by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, the Jerwood Painting Fellowships are an open submission opportunity open to UK based painters. Artists are invited to apply for the three new Fellowships, which will be awarded to outstanding artists in the first five years of their professional practice.
Jerwood Painting Fellowships is a new initiative from Jerwood Visual Arts designed to promote and support emerging artists in the field of painting. It follows the critically acclaimed Jerwood Contemporary Painters series, which came to an end earlier this year after a four year run, and previously the Jerwood Painting Prize.
Funded and managed by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, the Jerwood Painting Fellowships are an open submission opportunity open to UK based painters. Artists are invited to apply for the three new Fellowships, which will be awarded to outstanding artists in the first five years of their professional practice.
The three selected artists will each receive a bursary of £10,000 and a six-month period of critical and professional development support from mentors; Paul Bonaventura, Stephen Farthing RA and Chantal Joffe. The mentors will offer feedback on their studio practice and introduce them to a broader professional context for painting.
“We wanted this new initiative to offer more than just financial support to artists. We wanted to design a scheme that get’s to the heart of what it is to be a practicing artist today and provide support for their creative and professional development.“
Shonagh Manson, Director, Jerwood Charitable Foundation
During the mentoring period from October 2010 to April 2011, the Fellows will be required to work towards an exhibition of new work within the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, to be curated by the three mentors. The exhibition will take place at Jerwood Space from 11 May – 26 June 2011 before embarking on a tour later in the year.
Closing date for entries: 24 September 2010
