MEDIA RELEASE COURTESY OF: Theatre Ninjas
The Theatre Ninjas iPhone app and partner website will allow producers, directors and theatre makers to offer up last minute tickets for their shows for free on an online forum. Half an hour before a show and only a handful of seats sold, they can offer a number of free tickets to anyone who can make it to the venue on time.
The Theatre Ninjas concept is the brainchild of a young and energetic group of theatre practitioners. With many boasting experience in directing, producing and acting in shows at the Edinburgh Fringe in previous years, the Theatre Ninjas – through their mobile app – identified the world’s largest arts festival as an opportunity to support the thousands of shows and take a chance on some of the lesser known shows on offer.
For the theatre-maker, Theatre Ninjas offers a chance to fill their show, have their work seen by more people and advertise through word of mouth. The festival-goer can browse the theatre ticket listings on the website. Or, by downloading the iPhone App for free from the iTunes Store, they can check out the offers while walking the streets of Edinburgh or grabbing a quick drink. It's an opportunity to see shows audiences may not otherwise have chosen, to jam pack days at the festival and to save a good deal of money. Most importantly, the Theatre Ninjas concept has been devised so to allow for access on the move, meaning you can navigate the free shows during the inevitable rush that encapsulates the Edinburgh Fringe.
Everyone can benefit from the Theatre Ninja concept. Audiences can gain access to shows free of charge, the companies get to perform in front of fuller houses whilst the venues attract new audiences and can market other shows to them. Most importantly, Theatre Ninjas are striving to capture the ethos at the roots of the Edinburgh Fringe itself; a network of fringe performers, supporting each other’s work in a diverse, accessible and affordable programme. During this difficult economic period, this seems more important than ever, with the Theatre Ninjas mobile app connecting shows with a potential future audience.
Features of the Theatre Ninjas mobile app include:
- Listings of shows offering Theatre Ninja free tickets
- Details on the number of Theatre Ninjas tickets available
- Read about the shows
- View the shows posters
- Follow a Google Maps link directly to the venue
- Browse Twitter reviews of the Theatre Ninjas shows
The app is available for download immediately on the iPhone and iPod Touch via the iTunes Store whilst users of other devices can access the information through the Theatre Ninjas website. Whether you’re at Arthur’s Seat or winding your way through the Royal Mile you can keep track of what shows you can see for free and where they are.
ABOUT THEATRE NINJAS – The Theatre Ninja concept was conceived in 2010 by a number of like-minded individuals under the age of 25 who have a background in Theatre and the Arts.
The development of the app by Red, C a web solutions and App Design company whose clients include Hewlett Packard and the Ministry of Defence, has been supported by a £1,000 grant from Ideas Tap an arts charity designed to help young people at the start of their careers.
