Royal Opera House Costume Sale!

By artsHub Balletco | Wednesday, August 24, 2011

More than 1500 costumes from a range of Royal Opera House productions will be on sale in a massive clearout of works no longer in the repertory. The sale takes place at the new Bob and Tamar Production Workshop at the High House Production Park in Purfleet
.
Ranging from the post-war Paris, Dior’s ‘New Look’ inspired costumes from the opera ‘Boulevard Solitude’ designed by Tobias Hoheisel to modern day suits from the 2009 production of ‘Cosi fan tutte’; from ‘Katya Kabanova’ costumes by Maria Bjornson, designer of ‘Phantom of the Opera’, to the lavish and sumptuous costumes by Marie-Jean Lecca for ‘Masquerade’ in 2005. Other productions include ‘Duke Bluebeard’s Castle’, ‘Erwartung, Don Carlo’ from 1958, ‘Parsifal’, ‘Pelléas et Mélisande’ with costumes worn by Gerald Finley in the role of Goloud, Simon Keenlyside as Pelleas and Angela Kirschlager as Mélisande, ‘Jenufa’ and ‘Lohengrin’, together with many pieces from The Royal Ballet’s 2002 production of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’.

All proceeds from the sale will go towards the work of the Royal Opera House. The sale also provides a wonderful opportunity to have a look around the new High House Production Park with its café, orchard, kitchen and walled gardens.

The sale is taking place on Saturday 24 September 10am until 5pm
and Sunday 25 September 10am until 4pm.

How to get there

The High House Production Park is at Vellacott Close, off London Road, Purfleet, Essex, RM19 1RG.

At the roundabout with Purfleet Bypass, continue on the A1090 (London Road) for about 300 yards until you see signposts for the High House site which is on your right.
