Aradhana bring Aakrisht, a celebration of Indian music and dance, to Square Chapel Centre for the Arts in Halifax, West Yorkshire, on Saturday 6 March.
Aakrisht, Hindi for mesmerising, brings together the very best in Hindustani Classical Music and Kathak Dance in its most purist and enriching form.
This evening’s concert promises extravagant, high energy and traditional Indian music and dance collaboration by a younger generation of UK based renowned artists. A combination of solo recitals culminating into an interactive dialogue between musicians and dancer, the performance features the Tabla virtuoso Sanju Sahai, the enlightening sounds of Sitar by Roopa Panesar, the melodious vocals of Poulomi Chakraborty, and the graceful and energetic Kathak dance by Jaymini Chauhan.
Sanju Sahai, also known as Vishnu, is regarded as one of the finest and most sought after Tabla players of his generation. He began playing Tabla at the age of four and gave his first major performance at the age of nine. He has accompanied many of India’s legendary musicians such as Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, and Ustaad Shahid Parvez. Sanju is also known as a soloist and is seen as an imaginative and sensitive musician… please see attached media release for full story.
Poulomi Chakraborty is a renowned performer in Hindustani Classical and Semi Classical vocal. She has trained under eminent Gurus from last 18 years. She has performed for All India Radio, and was, selected for a National Scholarship by the Indian Government. She has charmed audiences in India, Mauritius and the UK.
