There will be a range of film courses at QUAD in February and March, covering Comedy, Music and Alfred Hitchcock.
Comedy Genius Film Course with Film Lecturer Alan Seaman, will focus on comedy films from Hollywood and Britain, including; Laurel And Hardy, The Ealing Comedies, Monty Python, Peter Sellers and Steve Martin. This four week course runs from Tuesday 9th February at 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Course Fees are £30.00 (£25.00 Concessions)
There will be two ‘Music On Film’ Courses. ‘From Boop Boop Be Doop To A Whop Bop-A-Lu A Whop Bam Boo’ covers the period from 1930 – 1963. Film and Music Lecturer David Leicester will cover the birth of the sound film to the days before the Beatles; including Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Billie Holiday; musicals like Gershwin’s Porgy And Bess and early film jukeboxes featuring Duke Ellington. The course will also cover age of Rock ‘N’ Roll films with Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Fats Domino and British stars like Tommy Steele, Adam Faith and Cliff Richard. The four week course runs from Thursday 11th February at 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Course Fees are £30.00 (£25.00 Concessions).
‘Screen-A-Delica’ Music on film course will cover the period from 1963 to the present day, led by Darrell Buxton, Cult Film Historian. Exploring the world of music in film from the ‘60s with Richard Lester’s Beatles movies, then into the ‘70s with the likes of Abba The Movie to the punk era of The Great Rock ‘N’ Roll Swindle before the MTV Generation and the recent run of award winning biopics like Walk The Line and Ray. The four week course runs from Thursday 11th March at 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Course Fees are £30 (£25 concessions)
Talk Cinema interweaves film screenings with lecturer led discussions, led by film Lecturer Alan Seaman. The course includes four film screenings from the QUAD programme and five discussion based lectures and runs from Tuesday 9th March at 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Course fees are £55.00 (£45.00 concessions) and includes tickets for the film screenings.
Alfred Hitchcock film course explores the four main stages of the Master of Suspense’s career: the British silent and sound periods, the Hollywood period and the television series which accompanied his Hollywood years, Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955 – 1965). University Of Derby Film Lecturer Serena Formica will cover the lesser known films; Hollywood thrillers, comedies to the small screen masterpieces. The four week course runs from Thursday 8th April at 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Course Fees are: £30 (£25 concessions)
