Summer Residencies & New Internship Opportunities

Throughout July and August Picture This is hosting artist Linda Quinlan and writer Dominic Paterson. These residencies offer the time and space to focus on development of new work within the supportive context of Picture This.

Visual Artists Ireland Residency
Using the studio and production space at Picture This' Atelier, artist Linda Quinlan is spending six weeks in Bristol developing a new work. This residency has been developed with the support of Visual Artists Ireland and was open to artists based in Ireland with an interest in working with Picture This to develop their moving-image practice.

During the residency Linda will work with film for the first time to develop a visual 'backing track' whereby various suspects drop in and move out to interrupt the rhythmic sway of the camera movement, which rotates in a 360 panning motion. The visual surface that the camera travels over is a repeated pattern of rubble and rock, a kind of visual white noise. Visitors to this scene include text composed during the residency, extruding clay, swirling cow’s tails and musical arrangements that lean heavily towards the terrain of pop.

Picture This Writing Residency 2010
Dr Dominic Paterson works at the University of Glasgow where he teaches 20th and 21st century art and theory. For the Picture This Writing Residency Dominic is working on a text which will address the work of French artist Jimmy Robert, and another text which will focus on a work from the Picture This archive.

Dominic's publications include essays on Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu, Matthew Barney, and Marcel Duchamp amongst others, as well as recent exhibition texts for Claire Barclay, Kate Davis and Faith Wilding. He is a regular contributor to MAP magazine as a writer and critic, most recently addressing the work of Mexican artist Martin Soto Climent.

Picture This is seeking up to 4 interns who are willing to commit to a minimum of one day a week for 3 months. We would like the successful candidates to start as soon as possible.
