Call for Artists February 2012
BFOP (Bristol Festival of Photography)
We are looking for a photographer (or group) to organise/curate an exhibition/event as part of BFOP in May 2012. Any ideas welcome. Deadline 29th February
Locality
The local-ness and relative suburbia of Broadwalk shopping centre and its public provides an opportunity to access a different audience in an environment perhaps unfamiliar with contemporary art. We would like to encourage artists to explore and engage with this context and to develop concepts for potential exhibitions, projects and events.
General call-out
Broadwalk Arts exhibition space works on an open-submission basis for any artists or groups wishing to use the space for a variety of creative events.
Volunteers Wanted
Broadwalk Arts is run by volunteers, and we need people to come on board. Get in touch to find out more.
About
Broadwalk Arts is based in a vacant shop unit in Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Knowle, South Bristol and is part of the Empty Shops Network, Capacity Bristol and is a Community Interest Company (CIC).
Since opening in January 2009, Broadwalk Arts has hosted a diverse range of events by artists and groups including solo and group exhibitions, window displays, installations, workshops, discussion groups, residencies and pop-up shops.
Broadwalk Arts encourages a dialogue to develop between artists using space and its public (the customers of the shopping centre) bringing arts and culture to the suburbs of Bristol. Broadwalk Arts provides opportunities for artists to respond to its setting and for local artists and groups to exhibit their work in an accessible environment.
Details
The space costs £30 per week which goes towards running costs, and 10% of any sales.
The space is rented weekly from Sunday to Saturday.
Exhibitors using the space are responsible for hanging and invigilating throughout.
We have a selection of furniture available to use.
Broadwalk Arts will promote your exhibition on the website and the Facebook group only. We can provide details for further local press and publicity.
To apply: Please send a brief statement outlining how you would like to use the space along with any relevant links and images to: exhibitionspace@broadwalkarts.co.uk
We look forward to hearing from you.
