The idea of Adelaide Contemporary was first mentioned in 2016. Now the reality of a permanent new contemporary art gallery for the South Australian capital is one step closer with the announcement of an international search for a world-class design team.

The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) confirmed yesterday that it will transform part of the old Royal Adelaide Hospital (oRAH) site – adjacent to the Botanic Gardens and within walking distance from its current venue – into a new landmark building. The public space will interweave art, education, people and nature through a sculpture park and accessible community meeting places, revitalising Adelaide’s East End business district and connecting it with the cultural boulevard.
