Remembering the oft-quoted John Berger

The iconic British art critic John Berger died yesterday, leaving a legacy of quotable words and tributes from others.

The name John Berger is legendary in the visual arts.  His iconic book and BBC TV series Ways of Seeing made him a household name. Published in 1972, it proposed a new – and more critical – way to approach European art history the Western art canon. In the same year, his novel, G., was awarded the Booker Prize.
